2. What is Shortcut Reasoning® approach?
Our program directors, Gladys Chan BBA, CMA
and Bryan Law BSc, LLM have spent
decades of years in tutoring mathematics since they were universities
students. Over the years, they have developed a unique way of teaching
mathematics which has been proved as an effective and funny way to study
mathematics.
After they had taught a few business courses in Fox College of Business,
they felt there was an imperative need to improve the mathematics
foundation of Canadian students. Thus, they started this division and
consolidated their teaching methods into this Shortcut Reasoning®
approach.

4. What are the credentials of your math tutors?
All our tutors have, at least, a bachelor degree with over 90 marks in
their high school mathematics. They must pass a stringent evaluation
process to be hired as a math tutor for Fox Mathematics. They are fully
trained and follow our curriculum, material and methodologies.

5. What are the results I can expect?
Parents are advised that different students may have different results.
Some of the students may show significant improvements in their
mathematics homework, tests and exam results in weeks; while some students may
take a longer time to show such improvements.
We aim at improving students’ foundation, rather than entertaining the
homework or tests. Therefore, we encourage parents to send their kids to
our education centre at an earlier age to achieve the best results.

6. How do you deliver your tutorials?
We offer a full range of Math programs and activities to child care
centres, elementary schools, secondary schools, youth centers, community
centers and education centers. We partner with non-profit taking
organizations to provide the best math courses to children at affordable
cost.
All students will receive individualized attention with
personal file to record their progress. They work at their own pace on
material designed specifically to address their skill gaps we identified
in their initial assessment. Our assessments are ongoing and students
will be advanced to a higher level whenever they have achieved a level.

7. What are the benefits of your class versus a private
tutor?
We have to admit the fact that no two tutors are the same. As a result,
the quality of tutoring from a private tutor depends solely on that
particular tutor. Fox Mathematics hire only qualified tutors with good
mathematics and teaching skills and uses
Shortcut Reasoning®
approach
which allows all tutors to assist students in the same effective way.
The quality of tutoring is therefore guaranteed.

9. Do you offer prep course for exams such as SSAT?
Parents are advised to prepare their kids in the earliest stage if they
need to take examinations such as SSAT. Our goal is to improve students’
fundamental skills of mathematics so that they can be benefited for a
better long term academic development, instead of a single exam result.
We do provide special lessons to students who need extra assistance for
their exams. Please contact us for the details.

10. My child is in gifted program, do you offer enrichment program for
gifted children?
Gifted students learn deeper and wider than ordinary students. Thus they
need to be challenged with more difficult questions to explore a higher
level in advance. Since our program is delivered individually to tailor
fit every student, gifted students will be assessed and assisted
according to their own standards and satisfies the needs of gifted
students.

11. Do you offer programs for children with learning disorders?
Our
Shortcut Reasoning®
programs are not designed to assist students
with learning disorders since those students require other special teaching
methods. Extra time and manpower are needed for this type of special
educations. We do provide special lessons to students who have learning

13. My kid has no interest in mathematics, what can we do?
Like all academic subjects; mathematics interests many students but also
scares some on the other hand. Fox Mathematics uses P.R.I.C.E. to make
mathematics a funny and enjoyable subject. Parents can do the same:
Praise – Your child may not have outstanding results in
mathematics, but every child wants to be praised for their efforts made.
Praising your child will give them confidence in learning, not to be
afraid of getting unsatisfactory results.
Relax – When children are tired or feel boring in learning, their
learning abilities decrease sharply. This is why we use funny approach
to attract students’ attention. At home, parents should allow their kids
to take a rest by reading a book, playing a musical instrument or
drawing a picture after they have studied mathematics for a period of
time (when they feel tired or bored). Electronic games and sport games
are not recommended.
Incentive – Kids love prizes. A prize is an honour, on top of its
actual value. The prizes do not have to be
expensive but should be attractive to them. You can set the goal, for
example a full mark in a test, in order for the kid to get the prize.
Care – You have to show your support to your kids by spending
some time with them, asking how they did in school and if there is any
problem. Advise Fox Mathematics immediately if your kid has any problem
in school although we have a routine checking with students in our
centre.
Encouragement – You should not under estimate your kid’s learning
ability. Many students had unsatisfactory mathematics results in junior
level could become a mathematician or scientist when they grew up. Fox
Mathematics always encourages students to try different levels of
mathematics questions and their concepts.
